Here are the top 5 Valentines Day dinner ideas that will guarantee a romantic day for you and your significant other. If you are reading this last-minute you should just skip down to number 1.

5. Double Musky Inn
Good food and a beautiful ride out. You can always take advantage of BAC limousine’s Double Musky Special. Also, don’t forget your right by Alyeska!

4. Simon & Seafort’s
Being downtown makes this a great opportunity for some horse sleigh rides! They do their pickups right down the road in front of the captain cook. I always thought they would be lame until I actually went on one, they can be a lot of fun with the right person.

3. ORSO
Same reason as above, transition into a surprise horse carriage ride after some great food. Always is a winner!

2. Seven Glaciers
This is a probably the best restaurant at which to celebrate Valentines Day, if you have some extra cash. My recommendation would be to make a weekend of it. Get some skis/snowboards, a room for a night, and you are set! Drive out Saturday morning and spend the entire day tearing up the slopes, then settle down for a romantic Dinner for two on top of the mountain. The views inside of Seven Glaciers are amazing, the staff is super friendly, and the food is amazing. This had to be my top pick!

1. DIY Dinner
These days, anyone can be a cook with the help of Google. Pasta dishes are notoriously easy to cook and when combined with a movie like “The Notebook”, “500 Days of Summer”, or Season 4 of “Dexter”, are always a win. If you just suck at cooking or are reading this last minute; order some Pizza Hut Tuscani Pasta, fly down to your nearest grocery store for some dessert and alcohol, pull up your Netflix instant Queue, and your all set in 30-45 minutes! Make sure you hide the Pizza Hut boxes.

From the 1500 votes submitted over the last few months, here are the top 10 certified places to get some grub.

10. Little Italy Restaurante

Don’t let the recent credit card fiasco keep you away. The food is way worth the risk of a few fraudulent credit card charges.

9. Tommy’s Burger Stop

This is one of those hole-in-the-wall hidden Anchorage gems. If you have never eaten here, then you have never eaten a burger. Definitely worthy of the top 10.

8. Ray’s Place

Great place to get your Vietnamese fix. Friendly service and great atmosphere, but parking can be a hassle sometimes.

7. Geno and Sal’s New York Grill

This one is fairly new, its located in the giant Bingo hall that used to be a Pet Stop. So you can sit back and enjoy some awesome greasy food while you blot your bingo cards.

6. Taco King

Good food for dine-in but don’t expect a good experience from their new delivery service.

5. Firetap Ale House

This is another new one. They have a huge stone oven in the center of the restaurant and ton of beers on tap. The reviews have been mixed so make sure you try it out for yourself and tell us what you thought. Expect to wait if you don’t have a reservation.

4. Lucky Wishbone

This is another one of those hidden gems of Anchorage. If you like delicious greasy chicken, then this is your heaven. Don’t be intimidated by the crowd, they move their customers pretty quickly.

3. Straight Out of Philly

If you come here you cannot leave without a Philly, its just a must. Carry-out or delivery is the way to go, dine-in can get a little crammed.

2. Sparta Pizza

This is a new restaurant, brought to you by the creators of the #1 restaurant in this list, that seems to be taking Anchorage by storm! Awesome reviews, great food, and reasonable prices. If you don’t like Greek food, come here and they will change your mind.

1. Milano’s Pizzeria

Is this really a surprise? Great delivery service, delicious food, and prices are on-par.

I am sure most of you have seen the commercials for Carl’s Jr’s new Big Carl. Their two main marketing ploys are the free gift card that comes with each meal and the huge size difference between the sandwiches (made even more apparent by the deep manly voice the Big Carl has compared to the humorous high pitched Big Mac tone). I was intrigued to taste their new sandwich to see how it compared in size and taste to the very unique and successful Big Mac.

First off, the sandwich that I was served at Carl’s JR had no size comparison to the Big Mac. It was less than half the size (height-wise) than the Big Mac. So, the commercials are not entirely accurate about that. Secondly, the only similarity between the two sandwiches is the sauce (both equally delicious). Since the Big Carl uses bigger meat patties its more comparable to a Double Whopper or a McKinley Mac (Alaska Only).

Bottom-line, the burger architecture of the two sandwiches are completely different and should never have been compared. As far as taste goes, the Big Carl is pretty freaking delicious and you should go get one!

If you are like me, then you probably don’t go down to the Dimond Center food court expecting any great options for dining. So, as you may understand, I was pretty surprised when I spotted an L & L’s Hawaiian BBQ while doing some Christmas shopping. In my mind, L & L’s was a legend. I constantly hear tales of how fantastic their food is but unfortunately all of their restaurants had been located in places I rarely visited (like the lower 48).

The prices may scare off the ignorant first-timers but I gladly surrender my dollars for that authentic steak and rice dinner. The portions are almost the perfect size. They fill up a good sized belly and dont hinder the plans of a chronic movie theater food smuggler.

So, while you are engulfed into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, take a moment and enjoy some authentic cooking from L & L’s Hawaiian BBQ.
